Susan got her start in real estate as an investor, buying her first property in 2001. She caught the bug almost instantaneously and never looked back. A desire to be in business for herself and a shared vision to build a real estate company unlike any other in the industry led her to partner with Tannis and begin Ethos in 2010.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Most days, the answer to that question is the lake.  When I first bought the cottage, I used to sometimes drive out at night at the end of the day, just to wake up there, even if I couldn't spend much time there before coming back to the city the next day.  Now that Ivy is getting old enough, I love getting back to sunset drives out to the lake.

If you could teach any subject, what would it be and why?
I would be an english teacher.  I have a passion for writing and I would love exploring the beauty of language and poetry with students.

Favourite movie quote?
It's all just a random lottery of meaningless tragedy in a series of near escapes.  So I take pleasure in the details, you know.  A quarter pounder with cheese, those are good.  The sky about ten minutes before its starts to rain, the moment when your laughter becomes a cackle..  And I sit back and I smoke my Camel Straights and I ride my own melt.   - Ethan Hawke as Troy Dyer in Reality Bites

What is your favourite book and why?
The Favourite Game by Leonard Cohen.  I still read it from time to time, it is like a comfort blanket for me.  He so simply and beautifully captures life in his words.  I could find a favourite quote on every page, but I'll limit myself to one excerpt, a conversation between Breavman (the main character) and his mother.

"This isn't my face, not my real face."
"Where is your real face, Mother?"
"Look at me.  Is this what I look like?"
"Where is it, where's your real face?"
"I don't know, in Russia, when I was a girl."
He pulled the huge atlas out of the shelf and fell with it.  He sifted pages like a goldminer until he found it, the whole of Russia, pale and vast.  He kneeled over the distances until his eyes blurred and he made the lakes and rivers and names become an incredible face, dim and beautiful and easily lost.
